          In other words, why don't antibiotics kill coronavirus? 'Cause of a very simple reason. SARS-CoV-2 is a virus and antibiotics only work against bacteria. There is a huge difference between viruses and bacteria. Bacteria (singular: bacterium) are unicellular organisms. On other hand, a virus isn't made up of cell/s and doesn't fall into any of the five kingdoms of living creatures (basic biology much?). Bacteria are living things but we're not sure if viruses are alive or dead. That's why we use vaccines to prevent them and antivirals to treat them.

          Remdesivir is an antiviral drug that has awakened the interest among scientists. As COVID-19 is similar to SARS and MERS pandemics, people thought remdesivir would be effective against it. Remdesivir has been used to treat Ebola (which is not a coronavirus).

          SARS-CoV-2 has a special enzyme that these germs use to multiply. Remdesivir stops these enzymes from working and inhibits the virus' ability to reproduce. Multiple tests are underway right now both in China and in United States. The Chinese tests will be concluded in April/May and we will get to know for sure whether this drug is actually useful against COVID-19 or not.
